Assumptions
[edit]From the gathered information, I'm ASSUMING that the Chesley Metcalf Johnston mentioned in History of Tuft College (Class of 1895, residence Bangor, Me), and several issues of the Tufts College catalog (not referenced as they're all on ancestry.com, is the Chesley Johnston mentioned in Univ Maine football records (1892) and the cited newspaper article (Chesley Johnston, Tufts football player 1892, engaged in 1893 to coach Maine State College football.
Additional assumption: death certificate cited for Chesley M Johnston b 1870, Maine - would indicate Chesley Metcalf Johnston, Tufts Class of 1895, was 25 when graduated, and 22 when recruited as coach. Doesn't seem far-fetched. If born later than 1870, would UMaine hire a teen-ager for coach??
update
[edit]found several google books for catalog citations. Same assumptions.

Found Maine State College 1890 book indicating Johnston was a non-graduate of the Class of 1892. If normal attendence, would've started 1888, or age 18. Corroborates assumption of birth year.Buckeye1971 (talk) 16:39, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
